7 Reasons Why It’s Good to Be a Golfer
People like to joke around about how golfers are obsessed with their sport. It’s with good reason!
Golf has many perks that other sports (like football, baseball, or hockey)
don’t offer.
Some people begin playing golf because they were taught the sport from a young age.
Others pick it up to be able to tag along on corporate outings in hopes that they can further their career. And some choose golf as an activity to enjoy during their retirement.
Here are seven reasons why it’s good to be a golfer and why you might want to consider
hitting the links every weekend - or every day, if you can swing it:
1.) Golf is a game you can pick up at any age. You can be a Tiger Woods toddler whose dad teaches him how to whack the ball, or get your first golf club at age 80 and still enjoy
what the sport has to offer.
2.) Golf is not gender-biased. While football is generally reserved for men, golf is a sport where a woman can take her skills to the next level - turning pro and dominating the LPGA if that’s where her dream takes her.
3.) Golf is great exercise. The average length of an 18-hole golf course is about 3-4 miles total, which is excellent aerobic exercise each time you play. And this doesn’t even take into account the upper body swings you make, which should optimally be under five per hole.
4.) Golf is a game where you can compete against others or just play to improve on your own score. If you feel like you want to join tournament play at your local course, you can - and pit your golf skills against others. But if you just want to keep a tally to see how
you can lower your own score each round, you have that option as well.
5.) Golf is a game where you get to enjoy nature. Golf provides stress-relieving benefits that other sports don’t have. Being cooped up on a field with a loud, rowdy group of fans isn’t as calming as strolling through a tree-lined, quiet course where squirrels are the only ones watching your hits and misses.
6.) Golf is a year-round sport that you can play in almost any kind of weather. Aside from
a lightening-laden rainy afternoon, you can feasibly play this sport in any kind of weather.
There are even brightly-colored golf balls to help you find your way through a snowy course if you’re that addicted to the game that you just can’t wait for the Spring thaw.
7.) You get to wear loud pants and gather at the 19th hole with your friends after every round! Golfers enjoy camaraderie like no other. It’s a sport where you can laugh at your mishaps and share a tale of achievement (or woe) from the day’s round with your fellow golfers in the clubhouse.
Good Golfing,
